Strong Ties to Our Native Heritage
Ongweoweh was founded by Frank Bonamie, a member and former Chief of the Cayuga Indian Nation of New York. Our Native American heritage is central to our business practices, reflecting integrity and respect for employees, manufacturers, and customers. The name “Ongweoweh,” derived from an Iroquois word meaning “the original people,” ties us to our roots in the traditional Cayuga homelands.
The Bonamie family and Ongweoweh continue to honor this heritage by supporting programs and scholarships that advance Native American communities. We incorporate Native American business practices in our daily operations, ensuring we treat all stakeholders with respect, humility, and long-term vision. Our commitment to recycling and the development of NativeTrax reflects our belief in doing what’s best for the environment and fostering lasting business relationships.
Our decision-making is rooted in the Iroquois “Seventh Generation” philosophy, which encourages us to consider the impacts of today’s actions on future generations, ensuring long-term sustainability and mutual prosperity.
